Palisades Photo Walk

March 26 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

Grab your camera (or cameraphone) and join the Historical Society of Washington, D.C., for a guided photo walk of Ward 3’s Palisades Neighborhood, led by professional tour guide, author, and performer Dwane Starlin. Meeting location to be announced; both the beginning and end points of the walk are accessible via public transportation.

This isn’t your typical walking tour: Your guide will provide context throughout your time together, but will encourage participants to fan out to document this Ward 3 neighborhood.

The 2 hour photo walk, beginning at 1:00 p.m., includes an introduction to the historical context of the neighborhood; an opportunity to engage with a local resident, activist, political representative, or cultural ambassador to provide a contemporary viewpoint; a resource guide to Palisades-related collections accessible through the Historical Society’s Kiplinger Research Library; and tips on compiling the documentation necessary to make your contemporary photography work a possible resource for your descendants, future historians, and repositories such as the Historical Society.

All those interested in street photography and/or learning more about Palisades neighborhood are encouraged to participate! Advance registration and ticket purchase required.

This event is part of the Street Photography Series, a slate of instructional workshops and guided photo walks covering all eight of D.C.’s wards. This series is designed to encourage active documentation of contemporary Washington, D.C. with a historical context, and culminates with the 2017 For the Record exhibition.

Support for the guided photo walks is provided in part by Washington Walks.
