As a private, non-profit organization, the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. receives no government funding for general operations. We rely on private support from donors like you to advance our mission as an educational and research organization to collect, interpret, and share the history of our nation’s capital.

The Historical Society of Washington, D.C. is a 501(c)(3) community-supported educational and research organization that collects, interprets, and shares the history of our nation's capital. Since 1894, the Historical Society has served D.C.'s diverse audiences with unique collections, educational public programs, exhibits, and publications.
