Oswald visited the HSW with several Smithsonian summer associates in tow as part of a reciprocal enrichment visit.

On June 16, the HSW Collections Manager gave a behind-the-scenes tour and collections update to Alison L. Oswald, Archivist at the Archives Center of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, and her summer interns.

Emily Keithley and Elise Fariello, two of the HSW interns working on the Capitol Photo Service Collection (SP 114), also introduced their project and explained the  inventory process to the visitors. (Stay tuned for continued updates on the Capitol Photo Service Collection progress).

These visits, while designed as enrichment opportunities for the interns, also provide an opportunity for HSW’s continued engagement with local repositories. Today’s tour allowed staff to swap notes on collections of interest held by both repositories, such as HSW’s Christian Heurich collection, 1844-2001 (MS 0537) and the Archive Center’s Christian Heurich Brewing Company Records, 1883-1913 (AC NMAH 1104).

One of the Archive Center’s interns hopes to return to HSW to conduct research for her summer¬† project identifying local figures in the Scurlock Photographic Studio records, 1904-1994 (AC NMAH 618).

HSW staff and interns will tour the Archives Center later this summer.
