The Historical Society will work with local artists & photographers, art and photography groups, and local university art & photography programs to put out a call for submissions in the fall of 2014.
The focus of the program is to highlight local artists. Therefore all submissions must come from residents from the Washington Metropolitan Area (including the District of Columbia and suburban Maryland and Virginia).
Artists are welcome to use mixed media. Each artist will pay an entry fee ranging from $15 to $35 (depending on artist category and established submission deadlines) to be considered in the online exhibit, and can enter up to two (2) works for consideration for that fee.
A jury panel of local museum curators from institutions like the Phillips Collection, the National Building Museum, the National Geographic Society, and the National Portrait Gallery will judge the entries.
Participants are invited to follow the following steps to make their submissions possible:
- Download and review the Call For Submission (PDF) that has detailed instructions about the competition process.
- Visit the DC Preservation League’s webpage to view a list of historic locations that will serve as the theme of the competition.
- Submit a digital image of your work through the Capitol Hill Art League webpage and create your profile to upload up to two submissions with payment.
You will receive a confirmation of your submission via email from the Historical Society one week after each posted deadline. Please be sure you receive this final confirmation to ensure we have a copy of your submission(s).
